MINUTES
AUGUST 12, 2014
The special meeting of the Stanley County Commission was called to order at 5:08 p.m. (CDT) by Chairman Scott with Commissioners Dennis Booth, Sonny Harrowa and Dana Iversen present. Commissioner Scott Deal was absent. Others in attendance were Auditor Karen Sharp, State’s Attorney Thomas P. Maher, Welfare Director Dawn Sass and John Hoffman. Meeting began with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
AGENDA: Motion by Booth, second by Harrowa, to approve the Agenda. All Voted Aye. Motion Carried.
MINUTES: Motion by Iversen, second by Booth, to Approve Minutes of August 5, 2014, with the following additions/corrections, to-wit: Motion by Deal, second by Booth, to make an operating transfer of $160,000 from the General Fund 101-911-429.02 to Highway Construction 201-311-425.10 for $100,000.00, and Supplies 101-311-425 for $60,000.00. All Voted Aye. Motion Carried. Motion by Iversen, second by Harrowa to purchase tin for the Schomer Barn from the Sioux Nation quote for $24,880.88. All Voted Aye. Motion Carried.

Motion by Iversen, second by Booth, to recess into Executive Session for Care of Poor, SDCL 1-25-2(2) at 5:18 p.m. (CDT). All Voted Aye. Motion Carried. Motion by Iversen, second by Harrowa, to reconvene at 5:21 p.m. (CDT). All Voted Aye. Motion Carried.
Motion by Harrowa, second by Booth, to deny Poor Relief Case #643. All Voted Aye. Motion Carried.
BUDGET: Motion by Harrowa, second by Booth, to publish and notice for hearing the provisional budget for 2015. All Voted Aye. Motion Carried.
Motion by Harrowa, second by Iversen to proclaim the month of September 2014 as CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in Stanley County. All Voted Aye. Motion Carried.
PROCLAMATION FOR CHLDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Fund for Children and Kids Cancer Connection report cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children between infancy and age 15. This tragic disease is detected in more than 15,000 of our country’s young people each and every year.
WHEREAS, one in five of our nation’s children loses his or her battle with cancer. Many infants, children and teens will suffer from long-term effects of comprehensive treatment, including secondary cancers; and
WHEREAS, founded over twenty years ago by Steven Firestein, a member of the philanthropic Max Factor family, the American Cancer Fund for Children, Inc., and Kids Cancer Connection, Inc., are dedicated to helping these children and their families; and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Fund for Children and Kids Cancer Connection provide a variety of vital patient psychosocial services to children undergoing cancer treatment at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, as well as participating hospitals throughout the country, thereby enhancing the quality of life for these children and their families; and
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Fund for Children and Kids Cancer Connection also sponsor Courageous Kid Recognition Award ceremonies and hospital celebrations in honor of a child’s determination and bravery to fight the battle against childhood cancer.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Stanley County Board of County Commissioners hereby PROCLAIMS the month of SEPTEMBER 2014 CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in Stanley County, South Dakota.
